Cyberbullying
What is Cyberbullying; according to a federal government website, "Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in Social Media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content. Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content about someone else. It include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing embarrassment or humiliation. Some cyberbullying crosses the line into unlawful or criminal behavior." Cyber bullying is such a common thing now a days, because our lives are based on social media. On my personal life, I spend 65% of my day on social media.
We live in a world where there exists evilness, and people enjoy making other people feel bad about themselves, which is no excuse to permit this situation. I do believe there should be something done with this huge issue. There was a law issued in the state of Michigan; "The new law makes it illegal to cyberbully another person and violators could face a maximum of 93 days in jail, a fine of $500, or both. if a cyberbully has a previous conviction, he or she could face 1 year in jail and/or a maximum fine of $1,000." Taking action over something so big is necessary, because kids are suffering and parents can't know everything that is going on with their kids. I also think that parents have so much to do in this situation even though they don't have full access to what their kids do all the time. Maybe having a talk with your kids about what is going on on the social media, about cyberbullying, so they are aware that this thing is actually an issue.
I agree with the law but I also have mixed feeling because, a problem as big as this, in a platform where there are over 1 billion users, is so hard to convict a person if he/she is using anonymous accounts or even fake accounts. The fact that the government has already started to address this issue is a huge step on my personal opinion.
